    I was prescribed this for bronchitis. Can't find find any information on lactmed or here as far as safety while breastfeeding. Nursing a 26 month old toddler.

    Hi, thanks for your post. There is no specific data in the literature on how much Tessalon (benzonatate) transfers into breastmilk. The pharmacological properties of the drug suggest that it will not be much. This is even safer in older children because they get less milk relative to their body weights than infants. However, the Tessalon pills are small, candy-like, and very toxic to curious children who might pick them up off the floor, so be careful. The most common side effect that mothers report in their infants while on this medication is sedation. Watch your child for any change in behavior after you start taking the drug. If he or she seems fine, then the drug is safe for your situation. There are no "hidden" dangers of this medication that we know of.
