My doctor prescribed decadron 4mg twice a day for 10 days to help treat a peritonsillar abscess. Is this safe since it is short term use?

FTucker08,
Decadron is rated an L3-no data-probably compatible. Steroids enter milk poorly so we think it is probably ok for low dose short term use. The medication is most concentrated in the first 2 hours after taking it and the half-life is 3.3 hours. We recommend taking the medication after nursing so you have a break before nursing again. Monitor growth. Some mothers are sensitive to steroids so it may possibly decrease your milk supply.
