I read somewhere that milk thistle is dangerous for babies while breastfeeding. I'm wondering if it is because I got some lactation cookies with some of it in there and I am currently breastfeeding my 2 month old son. I don't want to harm him in any way and am now scared to eat the cookies.

    Hi, thanks for your post.

We only have very limited information about milk thistle (aka holy thistle, silymarin) in terms of breastfeeding. We don't think much would transfer to the baby, but we don't know for sure. The only toxic effects (on babies) reported in the literature are some mild stomach upset and allergic reactions in susceptible individuals.

Sorry, that's not much of an answer.
