  • Zicam / zinc dissolvable tablets as cold remedy

    Hello,

How much Zicam is safe to take during lactation? How about during pregnancy? I know high doses aren't recommended, but how much is OK then?

I don't know how to convert the ingredients into milligrams (because it's written the homeopathic way I guess) but each tablet of Zicam rapidmelts (directed to take 1 every 3 hours) contains:

    Zincum aceticum 2x

    Zincum gluconicum 1x

The Walgreens brand has "Zincum Gluconicum 1x 11 mg" per tablet

    Thank you!!!

    Glin210,

The RDA of zinc in an adult is 12-15mg a day. We recommend not to exceed 25-50mg a day as excessive doses can cause zinc toxicity. The x stands for the amount of times a product has been diluted. We do not know at what amount they began with to know the amount you will receive in a dose. We think short term use of about a week is probably ok, but do not use long term.
